“So…a Baby was born…”
a devotional by Jackie Tahtinen

I don’t know about you, but I love it when a baby is born.  I want to know all about it…
When was it born? How much does it weigh? What’s its name? Who does it look like?

Babies give us joy and a sense of newness and freshness. They give us that ability to start over from a clean slate.  To teach, to learn, to do it all over again.
People…grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles, friends… come from everywhere to see a new baby.
They want to hold it, take picture with it and bring it gifts.

Well, in Luke 2:6-7, a Baby was born…

And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Jesus was born that night in Bethlehem…in a barn because there wasn’t any room for them.

What about me?  Do I have “room” in my life for Jesus? What things are so important that I neglect to spend time with Jesus?

We all live busy lives in this fast-paced society.  Everything is so instant.  We can get food instantly through a drive through, we can communicate instantly with our phones, we can make purchases instantly with a push of a button and even get it delivered directly to our homes.  We don’t have to take much time to do much of anything anymore…except to build relationships.

Jesus wants to have a relationship with YOU!!!  He loves you and was born into this world to die for you and offer you salvation.
He wants you to spend time with Him.

We need to slow down and make room for Jesus in our lives.

We need to read God’s Word and pray and sometimes sit quietly so that we can hear from God…

What kind of changes do you need to make? Will you make room in your life for Jesus this year?

Happy New Year…2017!

In Christ, Jackie Tahtinen

P.S. Here is a beautiful song illustrating the story of Jesus’s birth, and what we miss if we forget to make room for Him : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY0sIewVP7U

Lyrics below:

“While You Were Sleeping” by Casting Crowns

Oh little town of Bethlehem
Looks like another silent night
Above your deep and dreamless sleep
A giant star lights up the sky
And while you’re lying in the dark
There shines an everlasting light
For the King has left his throne
And is sleeping in a manger tonight

Oh Bethlehem, what you have missed while you were sleeping
For God became a man
And stepped into your world today
Oh Bethlehem, you will go down in history
As a city with no room for its King
While you were sleeping
While you were sleeping

Oh little town of Jerusalem
Looks like another silent night
The Father gave his only Son
The Way, The Truth, the Life had come
But there was no room for Him in the world he came to save

Jerusalem, what you have missed while you were sleeping
The Savior of the world is dying on your cross today

Jerusalem, you will go down in history
As a city with no room for its King
While you were sleeping
While you were sleeping

United States of America
Looks like another silent night
As we’re sung to sleep by philosophies
That save the trees and kill the children
And while we’re lying in the dark
There’s a shout heard ‘cross the eastern sky
For the Bridegroom has returned
And has carried His bride away in the night

America, what will we miss while we are sleeping
Will Jesus come again
And leave us slumbering where we lay
America will we go down in history
As a nation with no room for its King
Will we be sleeping
Will we be sleeping
